News: Testees cancelled by FX; Canadian future still up in the air

Filed under: Newsosky,The Glory Day of URBMN — Tags: , , , , , , , — Cameron Archer @ 2:01 pm
I’ve seen information on a few Twitter updates and at least one blog stating that Testees will receive a second season in Canada.  FX President John Landgraf has said at the Summer 2009 Television Critics’ Association press tour that Testees will continue in Canada.  It has been officially cancelled by FX, so bad luck for the American fans.

I recently contacted Michelle Lemmon, publicity coordinator for Canwest Broadcasting, about Testees‘ Canadian future.  Testees‘ Canadian network is Showcase, which is owned by Canwest.   I received a reply on August 7 stating that “a decision has not been made about the future of the series.”  I’ve called her for a followup, but as of Friday, August 7 at 2:01 PM ET, Showcase has not officially renewed Testees for a second season.  I know there are fans of this series – I’m not one of them, but there are fans.  I’ll update this post when news develops.

Addendum (November 9, 2009) | Going through e1tv.com, I dredged up some interesting information.  Testees is listed as having 26 episodes, according to this page.

Since the first season was 13 episodes long, this is the first concrete evidence I’ve seen that Testees will continue past its first season.  This doesn’t mean the episodes have been/will be produced, as Showcase hasn’t formally announced a second season for Testees.

In the meantime, Kenny Hotz fans have the sixth season of Kenny vs. Spenny to look forward to.  They’re hardly hurting…well, unless they’re in America, where Comedy Central shunted Kenny vs. Spenny to 2:30 AM Sundays.  I’m just surprised I can write “sixth season of Kenny vs. Spenny” and not be full of shit.

  1. I loved Testees. It was just so bad. I’m disappointed, I rally looked forward to it. My wife doesn’t share my opinion but my son and I bonded while watching it….

  2. I became a fan of it after my friend got back from Iraq, gave us a great show to drink and laugh to. I hope that Showcase does renew it.

  3. The best comedy show ever. Always enjoyed watching TESTEES with friends in the NAVY. It always made me fall of my seat laughing. My Name Is Earl is my other favorite show, but TESTEES was funnier. If you are a fan of shows like: Family Guy, My Name Is Earl, Always Sunny In Philadelphia then you will absolutely love TESTEES. Did TESTEES really get a chance to prove itself?

  6. Good Lord who is running the FX network. In the era when “brand management” is the ruling ethos and FX is building a rep for edgy and cutting black comedy, i.e., Rescue Me, It’s Always Sunny, why in the world would they even consider cancelling something as original as Testees. It was such a perfect fit with It’s Always Sunny. Isn’t there anywhere in the media world that recognizes cutting edge humor! Seinfeld which defined the 90’s only became a success through sheer dumb luck that some moron at NBC didn’t cancel it after a disasterous first season in the ratings. The rest is history. You would think FX would have more dynamic, younger, hipper execs…alas, not. What an incredible disappointment this program is cancelled.

  7. I know I’m playing devil’s advocate here, but FX did essentially replace Testees with Archer, The League and a Louis CK series. I can’t consider a network stupid if they pry Adam Reed and Matt Thompson away from [adult swim].

MAYBE ADVERTISE IT ON OTHER CHANNELS. I DONT KNOW,,,THATS YOUR JOB,,,OR SOMEONES. BUT IT WILL BE A HUGE HIT!!! I PROMISE!! IT ALREADY IS FOR THOSE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE ALREADY FOUND OUT ABOUT IT. 12. I think this show deserves a second chance! Everyone I showed it too loved and want to see a lot more of it! I also agree that garbage shows like Studio 8 and Coronation Street play on TV but not great shows like this one. Testees is one of the funniest things to ever be aired on TV and FX doesnt realize the potential it has to being a huge hit. All they need to do is broaden their audience a bit then eventually ratings will sky rocket through the roof. Whoever decides what shows get aired and get canceled on FX should most definitely be fired ASAP! If it were up to me I would pay them double to make hour long episodes! All this to say, Fuck you FX! You are morons who cant run a TV channel worth shit… Of course if you air more episodes of Testees I will gladly take back everything I said!

  13. Testees was AWESOME! Found out about it from a friend at a party and then watched it. I have shown several people a few episodes and they also loved it and watched the rest of the first season. Canceling this show was a HUGE mistake and as others said it will be big and popular if more people knew about it! I never usually comment on these types of things, but Testees was seriously one of the best shows I have seen! Me and my girlfriend still occasionally watch episodes. Herfume was genius!

  17. [...] As for whether Testees or Pure Pwnage will get second seasons, that’s apparently up to the production teams to decide.  Testees fans will have longer to wait for a second season, almost a year after FX’s John Landgraf stated that the show would continue airing in Canada. [...]
