News: Tangled pilot to air on CBC July 21, 2010

Tangled, the Shaftesbury Films pilot starring Sarah Wayne Callies and Leslie Hope, will air on CBC July 21, 2010 at 9:00 PM ET/PT.  As mentioned earlier on this site, CBC has passed on the pilot.

CBC’s website summarizes the show’s concept as a spy attempting to “remake herself and rediscover her own humanity, even as the bullets fly.”  It’s a female-oriented series, but CBC rarely mounts action shows.  It will be interesting to see how Tangled works on television.

Sarah Wayne Callies will soon appear on AMC’s The Walking Dead, a television adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s long-running zombie comic.  Callies will play Lori Grimes, wife of lead character Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln.)

As for Hope, she guest-stars as Kristina Frye on The Mentalist every so often.  She also appears on Lifetime Movie Network’s Seven Deadly Sins.  Both actors have their fans, so I see at least a torrent for Tangled.

Aside: if Tangled had made series, it would have had to change its name.  Disney will soon debut a film with a similar title.  Maybe Tangled should have changed its name to Being Alias.

  1. Watched the TANGLED tonight on CBC… it got my attention and looked to see when it would regularly be aired. Sorry to see it was not picked up so why show the episode in the first place.

  4. I too watched Tangled. I would have liked to watch more but I guess it never got picked up. CBC should never air the pilot of a show that they don’t plan to buy. Pretty annoying.

  5. What?! I agree, why put it on air if they have no plans on making more? I was trying to find out when it would be on next. It’s a shame.

  6. Reminds me of the hit show Alias, with Jennifer Garner.
What challenged person makes these decisions for CBC?

  7. I saw the pilot episode of Tangled and got hooked. For a second there I thought there would be a reason to have the CBC on in the house … should have known better. They’re not challenged JB … they’re morons! And they wonder why we clamour for the American channels.

  8. Of course CBC would never do anything to make there network profitable. I loved the pilot and I’m sad it won’t continue….

  9. I agreed…it was good, and tried google the show but found none…don’t understand why they air the ep when there is non to follow?

  10. To be fair, CBC has to air completed pilots as part of a contractual obligation to recoup costs, since Tangled received money from at least one government funding agency.

CBC usually airs standalone pilots which won’t make series in the off-days between Stanley Cup Playoff games, or in the summer. Most of the time, these pilots are ignored…which is why Tangled is surprising. It’s the most popular search for URBMN this month, by far.

Last week, the most popular search here was for Comedy Gold. Tangled has outstripped Comedy Gold by a 7:1 ratio. The pilot has obviously struck a chord with its viewers.

  11. I watched the show on the 21st and looked for it again the following week only to find that it’s not there. Then did a “search” and found this site which I read with disappointment. I’m sorry CBC could not see beyond it’s current position; this would have made for an interesting Wednesday night.

  12. I too was looking for the next showing of Tangled and am really disappointed to find it was a one-shot deal only. I wish the promos had mentioned that this was a pilot NOT being picked up. Too bad for CBC because this is the first time I’ve watched them this year. Now I remember why.

  18. I am all ‘Tangled’ up. What, no follow up series? How could they? Only in Canada you say?

Don’t you just love the way CBC plays the same three commercials ten times every hour?

TV (not just CBC) is going down the tube…

  19. I have been asking friends and checking the tv guide and finally searched only to discover-Tangled not to be picked up…so sad…very promising show…female Jason Bourne….so glad to see the doctor and her sister, love both those actors and of course surprised to see “Charlie Stubbs” from Corrie- he plays a good bad guy. Great to see the Quebec scenes included….~sigh~

  20. Saw the pilot and really liked the show last week. We set our PVR to record so that we wouldn’t miss the next episode. So much for that, it was never intended to be a series.

Loved the fact that the show had Sarah in it and that it featured Canadian cities. Got hooked on the pilot, too bad CBC didn’t pick it up.

  21. LOVED the pilot and SO disappointed it did not get picked up. Thumbs down to CBC. Loved the drama, the intensity, the acting and characterization.

  22. To everyone who liked it, let CBC know.. they may very well change their mind if they get enough positive feedback and pick it up.

  23. Crap! I watched it with my ailing mother and we both loved the show and got hooked on the first episode. We went to watch it the next week and it was a No Show! Some other network should have picked up this show – it’s too good to toss.

  24. Just like cbc to finally put a decent program on the air and then let it fall off the cliff. No wonder they have no one watching what a waste of a good show.
Oh well back to the american channels. To bad our tax dollars support such a lousy network.

  25. Good show for a Friday night time slot. Perhaps CTV could pick it up, put it on before or after Flashpoint.

  26. I really liked the pilot–great action, interesting characters–definitely a shame that it didn’t get picked up. And now I’ll never find out what trouble the main character will have to save her sister from. Sigh. Back to American channels…
