Trailer | Letterkenny first look

For those who aren’t familiar with Letterkenny through the Letterkenny Problems webseries, the six-episode comedy is loosely based on creator/star/co-writer/executive producer Jared Keeso’s hometown of Listowel, Ontario (population 6,867 as of 2011). Keeso also stars in 19-2; cop procedural fans might be aware of it. Jacob Tierney, who plays Glenn and is best known for The Trotsky, is executive producer, director, and co-writer. Letterkenny’s entire first season debuts on CraveTV February 7, 2016, with airdates to be determined on The Comedy Network.

Keeso plays Wayne, who survives on the farm with his best friend Daryl (Nathan Dales) and Wayne’s sister Katy (Michelle Mylett). Jonesy (Dylan Playfair) and Reilly (Andrew Herr) are the Hockey Players, who attempt to take the piss out of Wayne and Daryl. The Hicks, Skids and Hockey Players attempt to co-exist with each other, though not without fights and/or ten-ply threats of same.

Letterkenny is a fairly accurate cross-section of rural Ontario, though whether the property successfully makes the transition from webseries to half-hour television is yet to be determined. Letterkenny is CraveTV’s first original series, and Gloryosky hopes it succeeds. Bell Media might actually have something here, and it’s nice to see Canadian content on The Comedy Network beyond Match Game and Just For Laughs gala compilations – not that there’s anything wrong with that.
