REVIEW FOR 2004.01.16, 2004
DESPERATOR
PROBABLY THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD
DEMO, 2003
One of the things about music reviewing that I sometimes enjoy is reviewing bands that haven't had too much press, not because I can claim "more underground" status that way (admit it, that's why you contact these bands - right? Scene points?) but because these bands really are the cornerstone of the music scene. Hell, I didn't even scan the album cover (I don't have a scanner and arsed if there aren't more than two webzines that ever reviewed a Desperator CD, never mind this one). That thing was thrown together in Photoshop and converted to .jpg format. It's not an exact image of the album cover itself, but a green and white cover like the one Desperator sent me isn't that hard to emulate. In any case, I'm more dedicated than you...poopy-head.
Desperator really impressed me with the two-song demo the band sent me. Seriously, it's damn near impossible to do that with a five-minute demo but Desperator managed to do it. The band plays grinding death metal with a non-gay sense of humour (well, at least to me - some of you will hate it and I hate those of you that do.) Probably the best Band in the World features decent vocals from Erik "Jerka" Gravsiö and some tight, melodic yet brutal music. Granted, Probably the best Band in the World may be too melodic for some but I enjoyed Desperator's sense of humour and the band plays some of the best death I've heard in a while. It's obvious Desperator is on the cusp of being signed to a label. Hopefully the band will be on one before the end of the year. Seriously, Desperator is too good a band to pass up and I don't think this album will be overlooked. If it is, then somebody's going to pay...SOMEBODY IS GOING TO FUCKING PAY.
No, seriously, I really "mean" it.
