The 2004 Reviews Section: Death Dies, Product of Hate

There's something about bands like this that I can't get into. Death Dies is a black/thrash metal band from Italy with the standard anti-Christian attitude and lyrics. I know some people like this genre of music, but I couldn't get into this album. Product of Hate sounds exactly like the album title says, a product. Death Dies is brutal, a war machine, "true"-sounding...and a band that bores the pants off of me. Don't get me wrong, the band plays decent black metal and the lyrics found in Product of Hate are above the standard "Christ sucks" fare but I've never had a great interest in black metal. The album seems repetitive to me, and the problem I have with Death Dies is exactly the one I had with Wehrwolfe. I'm not one for the fast repetitive style of black metal (or overly repetitive extreme metal in general) and this album is no exception. Product of Hate is a decent album as far as black metal goes but since reviews are always the subjective opinion of the reviewer (always, no matter what some people may say) I'm giving it a Hunter. Perhaps this review doesn't go as deep as it should but I can't find that many words to say about the album, so I won't.

I have to give props to the band pictures, though. It's the standard spiky armbands/leather jackets/metal t-shirts thing, but I like the chainsaw that "Rex Tenebrae" is holding. Still, why the hell did he leave the protective plastic guard on? It doesn't look very kvlt. This is why I loved growing up on a farm, there are so many devices to sever flesh with. Then again, most of the farm implements work better in a grindcore setting but that is a story for another, more exciting, day.
