BIASED BULLSHIT FOR JANUARY 21, 2004.  DON'T LIKE IT, READ SOMETHING ELSE

CENOBITES
SECRETUM (7")
DRUNKABILLY, 2003

I like to review other things besides metal every once in a while.  It's a thing that I do.  Personally, every indie twat has this whole stereotype of "dumb headbanger" in their mind and I want to piss those guys off by waving my dick in their direction.  Anyway, this is a three-song seven-inch from the band Cenobites (well, I'm not reviewing the 7", I'm reviewing the promo CD but that's besides the point) and it's pretty damn good.  At first I didn't like it, mainly because the vocals threw me off.  These aren't bad songs, to be honest.  The band plays this punky rockabilly ("psychobilly") and the three songs are very strong and catchy songs.  Cenobites sounds authentic enough without being contrived and the piano in "C.A.M." adds a certain element to the 7" that sounds right in the context of the song without sounding forced or hopelessly "retro."  Secretum is a solid 7" and...well, what else can I say.  I liked it.  I'm not too knowledgeable about the rockabilly scene but I enjoyed Secretum regardless.

I also like the Cenobites site.  Sure, it's in Flash and as such it's annoying to navigate but it's still the best use of Flash I've seen in a while, at least in regards to bandpages.  Still, it's in Flash.  Can't win 'em all, I guess.
